A Tatler-Worthy Winter Romance at Middleton Lodge

Some weddings whisper elegance. Others dance in candlelight. But Harriet & Julian’s December celebration at Middleton Lodge? It sang a soft, sweeping symphony of romance, wrapped in winter magic, and finished with a flourish of floral wonder that had Tatler taking note. We were honoured to bring the floral dreams to life for this spectacular day… a celebration that combined timeless style with the warmth and whimsy of winter.

Taking place on Saturday 1st December 2024, Harriet & Julian exchanged vows at the heart of Middleton Lodge's Main House, an elegant Georgian retreat in the Yorkshire countryside. The ceremony unfolded in the entrance hall beneath the grand spiral staircase - an architectural gem that framed the moment beautifully. As the newlyweds shared their first kiss, guests showered them with confetti from the stairs above, cascading like snowfall in the soft winter light. It was magic. Pure and simple.

Later, the celebration moved into the marquee, nestled among Middleton Lodge’s winter
gardens. As dusk fell, the space glowed with the gentle flicker of hundreds of candles and twinkling festoon lights - the atmosphere turning from classic vibes to a candlelit fairytale which was totally Tatler worthy!

Let’s go back to the very beginning…

Harriet & Julian came to us with three words in mind: romantic, personal, fun. They dreamt of a floral story that felt seasonal, stylish and elegant - soft tones of white and green, kissed with blush and dusky pink. Think English garden meets winter romance. Of course, we completely fell in love with this idea and we couldn’t wait to bring it to life. We designed each element to feel natural, loose, and untamed, allowing the florals to echo the relaxed joy of the day while staying true to the refined setting.

To bring their vision to life, we curated a fragrant collection of seasonal blooms and whimsical details, including:

  • Ruffled garden roses for romance and scent.
  • Twisting hazel branches to add a wild, storybook texture.
  • Hellebores, echoing the gardens just outside the marquee.
  • Lunaria seed pods, catching the light like little silver moons.
  • An abundance of winter foliage filling the air with
    freshness.
  • Textured white florals for a soft, frothy look.

Each stem was hand-selected and placed with intention, creating arrangements that were abundant but never overworked - a floral dance between elegance and enchantment. From the very first conversation in our studio, Harriet & Julian trusted our process. We built a full floral design guide, filled with inspiration, textures, colour palettes and installation ideas. While they came to us with a clear vision, they leaned into our creativity - especially when it came to the hanging flower clouds. Initially we considered two floral hoops, but closer to the wedding, we pivoted to four large, asymmetric clouds filled with winter foliage and delicate blooms. They floated like art installations above the tables, drawing the eye upward and giving the marquee a luxurious, editorial edge.

Setup at Middleton Lodge is always a ballet of timing - the venue opens just a few hours before guests arrive, meaning everything must be carefully choreographed. We pre-built the foliage clouds in our studio, then layered in the fresh flowers on-site before hoisting them into place. It was a race against the clock, made joyful by our trusted team of florists (and a good bit of laughter as we mud-skated urn arrangements around the back of the marquee!). We’re so lucky to work with a team who not only bring skill and experience but truly understand the heart of Mollie & Mauve - and that shows in every petal placed.

The ceremony featured a pair of towering urn arrangements, flanking the historic doors behind the couple. Wild and romantic, they framed Harriet & Julian perfectly as they said ‘I do’. Inside the marquee, bud vases and meadow-style runners adorned the tables, dancing with candlelight and layered textures. And of course, those floral clouds overhead set the scene for an unforgettable party - tambourines in hand, guests danced beneath a canopy of blooms, light and love.

As the golden light poured through the Main House windows, Harriet held her bouquet near a sash window - and Katy Melling Photography captured the shot we now treasure. A portrait of calm, joy, and quiet beauty. It was one of those moments that made all the early mornings and careful planning worth it.

And then came Harriet’s words, which we'll carry with us forever:

The flowers were honestly unbelievable. I was obsessed with them – everything I
wanted and more. The urns were huge!! Incredible work, and I was so, so, so
happy. I already have friends asking for your contact details!

And to top it all off, we’re thrilled to share that Harriet & Julian’s day was featured in Tatler Magazine - a testament to their style, the magical team of suppliers, and the sheer romance of it all. It truly was a dream wedding to be part of.
